1260 Cadets at Wings & Wheels flying show

On Saturday, 5 September, 1260 Squadron Air Cadets were, for the third consecutive year, at the Rectory Farm, Averham, Wings 'n' Wheels county show and flying display.

The show staged activities commemorating WW1 vehicles and aircraft - with British and German fighter aircraft on show alongside army artillery pieces and vehicles. As well as helping with the event Air Cadets were raising money for the Royal Air Force Association Benevolent Fund.

This year was very special with the Historic Aircraft Collection having asked the organisers to host their Spitfire for the whole weekend which undoubtedly contributed a lot to the day on Saturday.

But it was not all about flying, prizes were presented during the afternoon by a very special guest. Mark Desmond was involved in a road accident in February of this year and managed to live to tell the tale thanks to the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. As this year’s event was again supporting the LNAAT, Mark was able to say a personal thank you to the exact same team who flew in in the helicopter.

The event was also supporting Beaumond House Community Hospice again. After much deliberation the organisers decided that these two charities play such an important part in the lives of the people in our locality that we should offer our thanks for all that they do.

Adrian Hatton, on behalf of the organisers of RECTORY FARM WINGS’N’WHEELS AND VILLAGE FETE said “Your support was a great vote of confidence and building on the success of previous years we knew we could rely on the Air Cadets to look after things for us in the car park and, later on, the flightline enabling us to focus our efforts on making it the best community day out of the year. We sincerely hope that you had the opportunity during the day to enjoy yourselves and join in the fun”.
