Double celebration

1260 Squadron Newark & District Air Cadets have a double celebration with the promotion of Jonathan Lile to Cadet Warrant Officer and Jonathan also gaining his Air Cadet Pilot Scheme Wings following an intensive 2-week scholarship programme at Tayside Aviation, Dundee.

Jonathan was presented with his Wings by Squadron Leader Mark Daffey, Sector Commander from Trent Wing ATC and Flight Lieutenant Martin Derbyshire, Commanding Officer of Newark & District Air Cadets.

Flight Lieutenant Derbyshire commented "Jonathan has worked extremely hard to achieve these successes. A Cadet Warrant Officer is the highest rank that an Air Cadet can attain and requires a considerable amount of knowledge and commitment. Air Cadet flying scholarships are offered to a select number of Cadets from across the country and for many Cadets these courses are the stepping stone to their Private Pilot's Licence and potentially a career as a pilot with the armed services or commercial airlines. Jonathan is a credit to our Squadron and an inspiration to all of our Air Cadets".

On receiving his Wings Jonathan said "I am extremely grateful to the staff at Newark Air Cadets, the Air Cadet organisation and everyone at Tayside Aviation for this fantastic opportunity. I had an amazing time that I will remember for ever. I would encourage any Cadets who aspire to be pilots to apply for a place on the scheme, it is an extraordinary once in a lifetime opportunity".
