Grant for Air Cadets
1260 Squadron Newark and District Air Cadets are delighted to have received a grant from Newark Youth Trust to help with the purchase of Squadron hoodies for the Air Cadets.
Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Martin Derbyshire explained that “When Air Cadets join us they receive ‘RAF Blue’ uniform courtesy of the Royal Air Force. Cadets wear this uniform on many occasions, for example parades such as Remembrance and Battle of Britain. We supplement this by providing each Air Cadet with basic ‘green’ uniform that they can use for adventure training, shooting and other, more physical, activities but uniform is not always appropriate for every activity”.
Air Cadets also participate in what are termed civilian activities, in particular they take part in obtaining Duke of Edinburgh Awards, they participate in various sports including swimming, netball, hockey, football, rugby and athletics and they join in community events such as the WW1 recreation walk from Newark to Radcliffe.
Martin continued by saying “Our Air Cadets expressed a strong desire to be able to wear clothing that is not only suitable for the civilian activities that they take part in but shows them as proud members the Air Cadet organisation. They also see that if all Air Cadets have the same clothing they will all feel part of the team. As a result of a successful bid to Newark Youth Trust, Newark Air Cadets now have smart, warm, hoodies to wear”.
The hoodies were presented to 1260 Squadron Air Cadets by Newark Youth Trust representative Malcolm Ellison, who said “Newark Youth Trust is pleased to have been able to donate funds towards the hoodies for 1260 Squadron. They are a very well deserving group and we are excited to be able to provide the cadets with the opportunity to represent their Squadron during the many activities and adventures they participate in”.
Flight Lieutenant Martin Derbyshire concluded by saying “On behalf of all of our Air Cadets I would like to thank Newark Youth Trust for their continued support of our group, their funding does make a real difference to us. I would also like to thank Alison Stewart, the proprietor of Sportstar in Southwell, who produced the hoodies for us”.
